FRESNO, Calif. (AP) - Quinton Hosley scored a career-high 35 points, leading five players in double figures, as Fresno State knocked off Western Athletic Conference favorite Nevada 87-77 on Wednesday night.
Hector Hernandez added 18 points and seven rebounds for the Bulldogs (9-6, 2-2 WAC), who snapped a two-game losing streak.
Kyle Shiloh had a career-high 22 points for Nevada (13-4, 3-2), including 14 in the final 4 minutes. Nick Fazekas, the WAC's leading scorer, had 17 points and Marcelus Kemp added 16.
Fresno State led by as many as 21 points in the second half before a Shiloh-led rally trimmed Nevada's deficit to single digits in the final minute.
The Bulldogs shot a season-best 52.7 percent from the field and 41.7 percent from 3-point range, including a 5-of-8 effort from Hosley.
Fresno State's starting lineup scored 86 of its 87 points as the Bulldogs boasted all five starters in double digits for the first time on the season.
Hosley's 35 points to go along with a 10-for-14 performance from the field were a Save Mart Center record. As only the second Bulldog to score 30 or more points in a game at the Save Mart Center, the junior forward also contributed seven rebounds, four blocks and three steals. Donovan Morris added 12 points for the Bulldogs, Ja'Vance Coleman had 11 and Kevin Bell 10.
Fresno State led 36-28 at halftime, taking advantage of a 7-minute Wolf Pack scoring drought.
Nevada went ahead 16-10 before going ice cold from the field. "There was our best defensive effort of the year," Fresno State head coach Steve Cleveland said. "We had to play very, very well and we had to click on all cylinders to beat a very talented Nevada team. Tonight, we played a complete game; we were the aggressor.
"Quinton (Hosley) and Hector (Hernandez) played outstanding," Cleveland stated. "We all know they struggled the last time about but we never talked about not shooting the ball. For Quinton, it was a very special night and Hector, he just brought so much energy. He's had two very big games in conference play at home. Ajay (Riding) hustled on defense and Donovan, who made his second start of the year, gave us valuable minutes, attacked the basket and hit the shots.
"Everyone stepped up and did what was needed to be done," Cleveland said. "We knew we played well and we knew we competed. The energy through the arena carried us through. Nevada is not a one dimensional team; they have very special players.
"You to have to appreciate when you beat a quality team," Cleveland added. "You have to enjoy the fact that the game plan was executed, that we competed and just had an all-around contribution. You just have to enjoy it even for a little bit."
Fresno State now travels to Honolulu to meet Hawai'i (8-6, 2-2 WAC) on Sat., Jan. 21, 9:00 p.m. (PT). That game will be broadcasted by the Bulldog Sports Network on KFRE (WB 59).
