WAC Indoor Track and Field Athletes Among Best In the Nation
XBOX LIVE ATHLETES OF THE WEEK ?“ Idaho?™s Russ Winger and Louisiana Tech?™s Donesha Spivey have been named the Xbox Live Western Athletic Conference men?™s and women?™s Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, respectively.

Winger, a sophomore from Colorado Springs, Colo., won the shot put at the Cougar Indoor Invitational with an automatic qualifying mark of 60-10 and broke the meet record. Winger also finished third in the weight throw with a mark of 57-1 ?˝.

Spivey, a senior from Palm Bay, Fla., finished second in the long jump at the Bayou Bengal Invitational with a mark of 20-1.75 (6.14m) to tie her for 19th best in the nation. Spivey also posted a time of 7.44 in the 60m, good for second and an NCAA provisional mark to tie her for 20th in the country.

Other Men Nominated: Forest Braden, Boise State; Nolan Jackson, Louisiana Tech and Seth Wold, Utah State.

Other Women Nominated: Rebecca Guyette, Boise State; Dee Olsen, Idaho; Amanda Boice, Nevada; Erin Streater, New Mexico State and Lacey Schroeder, Utah State.

WAC ENTERS NEW ERA ?“ The WAC is a nine-team league with the additions of Idaho, New Mexico State and Utah State following the departures of Rice, SMU, UTEP and Tulsa. It is the third time in conference history that the WAC will be comprised of nine teams (1980-91 and 2000). The WAC will also add CS Northridge as an affiliate member for the Indoor season for both men and women.

WAC CHAMPIONSHIP RETURNS TO BOISE ?“ The 2006 edition of the WAC Championship returns to Idaho Sports Center and Jacksons Track in Nampa, Idaho. The meet will be held Feb. 22-25 with the multi-events on Feb. 22 and 23, and the preliminaries and finals on Feb. 24 and 25.

NCAA CHAMPIONSHIP ?“ The 2006 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championship returns to Fayetteville, Ark., March 10-11. The University of Arkansas is hosting the event.
