DENVER ?“ Fresno State?™s Sergiu Moduc has been named the Xbox Live Western Athletic Conference Tennis Player of the Week for the week of January 30.
Moduc, a senior from Yorba Linda, Calif., was instrumental in leading the Bulldogs to a narrow 4-3 victory over San Francisco in Fresno. Modoc and partner Sam Gibbs began the day with a dominating 8-4 doubles win in which the Bulldogs led 6-0 at one juncture of the match. Then in singles, with the team scores knotted at 3-3, Modoc showed tremendous leadership and determination to finish off USF's Falko Huettenberger 6-3 in the second set. In the first set of that match, Modoc and Huettenberger went to the tie-breaker trading points until Modoc won 14-12. Modoc is now 3-0 in singles and 3-0 in doubles in the 2006 dual match season.
