The first season of WAC gymnastics starts off with a bang as San Jose State and Utah State travel to affilate member Cal State Fullerton on Jan. 8.

Utah State's gymnastics team enters the 2006 season ranked in the top 30 of the preseason coaches poll that was released earlier this week. Second in Western Athletic Conference rankings behind Boise State. Utah State finished the regular season last year ranked 16th in the country and 34th at the end of the NCAA competition. The Aggies finished first in the Western Gymnastic Conference.

Five of the Aggies' 2006 competitors rank in the top 25, including second-ranked Utah and seventh-ranked LSU. In-state rivals Brigham Young and Southern Utah are ranked 19th and 34th, respectively.

The Boise State schedule kicks off with two home meets as Boise State first hosts No. 14 Arizona State on Jan. 13 and then welcomes UC-Davis on Jan. 20. The UC-Davis meet will be in conjunction with the Bronco wrestlers hosting Oregon as part of Beauty and the Beast 2006.

Sacramento State has already competed once this season. As a team, the Hornets finished sixth in the meet on Jan. 3, which was won by third-ranked UCLA. The Bruins scored 193.775 followed by No. 13 Oregon State (191.925), No. 20 Arkansas (190.625), No. 18 Washington (190.425), California (189.350) and Sacramento State (188.075).
