Fresno State Opens WAC Season With Double Overtime Win

FRESNO, Calif. (AP) - Ja'Vance Coleman scored 25 points, including the go-ahead three-pointer with 2.6 seconds left, lifting Fresno State over Utah State 99-96 in double overtime Saturday night.

Quinton Hosley added 25 points and 17 rebounds for the Bulldogs, who scored the first 10 points of the second overtime before withstanding a furious Utah State comeback.

Fresno State won its Western Athletic Conference opener, improving to 8-4 overall and halting a six-game win streak for Utah State (9-4, 1-2).

Nate Harris scored a game-high 33 points for Utah State, including a 3-pointer with 13.8 seconds left that tied the game at 96.

Nevada 63, San Jose State 56
SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) - Nick Fazekas had 25 points and nine rebounds in leading Nevada to 63-56 victory over San Jose State on Saturday, snapping a two-game losing streak.

Mo Charlo added 13 points and 10 rebounds as the Wolf Pack (11-3, 1-1 Western Athletic Conference) beat the Spartans for the seventh straight time.

Carlton Spencer scored a career-high 15 points to lead the Spartans (4-11, 0-2), who lost their 12th straight conference game. Menelik Barbary had 10 points and seven boards before fouling out late in the game.

Fazekas has reached double figures in 45 of his last 46 games, and has reached 20 or more points 10 times this year, 34 in his career.

Charlo had his third double-double and his first since a loss to UCLA on Dec. 10.

Nevada avoided its first losing streak of more than two games since a five-game losing streak toward the end of the 2000-01 season.

The Spartans played without leading scorer Demetrius Brown, who suffered a thigh bruise in Thursday's 67-56 loss to Utah State.

Louisiana Tech 66, Idaho 61
Louisiana Tech completed its Western Athletic Conference season opening road trip with a 66-61 win over the Idaho Vandals (3-9, 0-2) in the Cowan Spectrum tonight to move to 9-6 overall and 2-0 in conference play.

The Bulldogs defeated Boise State on Thursday night by a buzzer-beating three-pointer by junior forward Paul Millsap, and Millsap once again led Tech offensively, as he posted his 53rd career double-double with 21 points and 15 rebounds. Millsap also had four blocks and two steals in 30 minutes.

Tech finished its conference season opening weekend with a 2-0 perfect record for the first time in three years, and Tech head coach Keith Richard said he was more than happy to open with two wins on the road.

Boise State 73, New Mexico State 63
BOISE, Idaho ?“ Coby Karl came to life at the right time. The Bronco junior scored 12 straight points for Boise State and 15 of 17 in the stretch to push Boise State to a 73-63 Western Athletic Conference win over New Mexico State Saturday afternoon at Taco Bell Arena.

Karl helped Boise State (8-5, 1-1 WAC) push a two-point second half lead to seven during the stretch where he scored the 15 points. Karl started the streak with a free throw with 9:22 to play and capped it with a 3-pointer with 2:33 to play. He had seven points before the streak started and finished with a team-high 22 points to go with eight rebounds, four steals and two assists.

New Mexico State (5-8, 1-1 WAC) stayed in the game thanks to the play of Mike Mitchell and Tyrone Nelson who combined for 45 of the Aggies 63 points. Mitchell finished with a game-high 26 points on 11-of-19 shooting, while Nelson added 19 points and 11 rebounds in just 18 minutes before fouling out.
