DENVER ? Fresno State midfielder Antonea Lugo and goalkeeper Angie Larsen have been named the Western Athletic Conference women’s soccer offensive and defensive Players of the Week, respectively.
Lugo, a senior from Clovis, Calif. (Clovis), scored the game-winning goal against Hawai?i to give the Bulldogs the 1-0 win and secure their first WAC regular season title. Fresno State captured shutout wins against San Jose State and Hawai?i to take the title with 19 points. Lugo also added an assist in the win against San Jose State. The top-seeded Bulldogs have a bye in the first round of the WAC Soccer Tournament which begins Nov. 2 in Reno, Nev.
Larsen, a senior from San Jose, Calif. (West Valley College), recorded her 13th shutout of the season, tying a WAC record. Larsen tied Rice’s Lauren Shockley (1999) and SMU’s Becca Lief (2004). In two matches last week, Larsen had eight saves while not allowing a goal in 180:27 minutes. The senior became the first WAC goalkeeper to not allow a goal in conference play.
