The seeds are set for the 2006 WAC Soccer Tournament. The tournament will be held for the first time in Reno, Nev., on the campus of the University of Nevada and will be played at Mackay Stadium.
With an overtime win over Hawai`i on Oct. 29, Fresno State captured the regular season crown with a 6-0-1 WAC record. The Bulldogs were the first WAC team ever to not allow a goal in WAC action. This is the first regular season crown for the Bulldogs who won the WAC Tournament last season in Boise, Idaho.
Utah State set a school record with its five conference victories, posting an unbeaten 5-0-2 WAC record. The Aggies also tied a program record with 10 overall victories after the Aggies ended regular-season action with a 10-7-2 mark, going unbeaten in their last seven matches and in nine of the last 10 matches. Last season, Utah State was the No. 4 seed in the WAC Tournament.
Host school Nevada once again takes the No. 3 seed. The Wolf Pack also held the third seed last season. Nevada and San Jose State both ended with identical 4-2-1 records, but with a win over the Spartans the Wolf Pack earned the third seed. San Jose State will be the No. 4 seed after being the No. 2 seed last season.
Boise State earned the No. 5 seed with a win against Louisiana Tech on Oct. 29. The Broncos are looking for their first WAC Tournament win, holding an 0-3 record in three appearances in the WAC Tournament. Hawai`i rounds out the bracket. The Rainbow Wahine were the top seed in the 2005 Tournament.
The WAC Tournament begins Thursday, Nov. 2. No. 4 San Jose State will take on No. 5 Boise State at 3:00 p.m. Third-seeded Nevada will host No. 6 Hawai`i at 5:00 p.m. Both top-seeded Fresno State and second-seeded Utah State have byes.
