XBOX LIVE GOLFER OF THE MONTH ? New Mexico State’s Lehua Wise, a senior from Lihue, Kauai, Hawaii (Kauai HS), finished in the top 15 in all three tournaments that the Aggies played in last month. She opened the month with a 12th place finish in the Heather Farr Memorial Invitational in Colorado after shooting a three-round total of 12-over par (75-72-81, 228). Wise returned to New Mexico State where she won the individual title of the Price’s Give ?em Five Intercollegiate with a 2-under par 214 (72-72-70). Her total helped the Aggies to a team win in the tournament as well. Wise concluded the fall season at the Kent Youel Invitational in Honolulu tying for seventh place with a 10-over par 226 (72-79-75). Wise averaged 74.2 strokes over the nine rounds of play.
Others nominated: Katie Street, Boise State; Laura Luethke, Fresno State; Dale Gammie, Hawai?i; Melanie De Leon, Nevada; and Janelle Gomez, San Jose State.
GAMMIE, DE GENNARO WIN ? Hawai?i senior Dale Gammie (71-71-72=214) picked up her first career individual title on Oct. 3 at the Heather Farr Memorial at the Omni Interlocken Resort in Broomfield, Colo., shooting a three-round score of two-under-par to win by five strokes. Gammie led the Rainbow Wahine to a fourth-place finish. Nevada senior Nicole de Gennaro was the individual medalist at the Wolf Pack Invitational, Oct. 3-4. She was in a five-way tie for first after the first two rounds, but finished the tournament with improvements in every round (78-74-73=225).
NEVADA, NEW MEXICO STATE WIN HOME TOURNAMENTS ? Both Nevada and New Mexico State hosted and won tournaments last month. Nevada entered the last round of the Wolf Pack Invitational tied for the lead with Sacramento State and just five strokes ahead of Northern Iowa. The Wolf Pack came out and carded a 300, its best round of the tournament for a total of 920 (316-304-300, +56). The win was the first for Nevada at the second annual Wolf Pack Invitational. It was also the first team title under third-year head coach Jody Dansie. New Mexico State won its own Price’s "Give ?Em Five" Intercollegiate after carding a 26-over par 890 and finished six strokes ahead of second-place Baylor. NMSU beat out five teams from the WAC including Boise State, Idaho, Nevada, San Jose State and Hawai’i. It was the Aggies’ first win in their tournament since 2000.
2007 WAC CHAMPIONSHIP ? The 2007 WAC Championship will be held in Las Cruces, N.M. at the NMSU Golf Course. This year’s championship will be held April 23-25. Regarded as one of the most outstanding facilities in the Southwest, the NMSU Golf Course has played host to 3 NCAA National Championships along with numerous conference and USGA qualifying championships. Highlighted by beautiful scenery, the course is framed by the majestic Organ Mountaings to the east and the picturesque Mesilla Valley to the west. The course, which opened in 1963, offers a unique combination of both traditional and desert golf course features.
