DENVER ? Fresno State’s Chantella Perera has been named the Western Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for the week of Nov. 20. This is the second career WAC Player of the Week for the senior.
Perera, a senior guard from Watirna, Victoria, Australia, (Caufield Grammar) averaged 22 points per game in two wins over Mountain West Conference opponents Utah and No. 18 BYU. The guard led the Bulldogs in scoring in both games. She scored 23 points at Utah, making 11-of-12 from the line and shooting 2-of-3 from the three point line. Against No. 18 BYU, Perera scored 21 points, hitting her first four threes and ending up 4-of-5 from three on the night. The win over BYU was the first Fresno State win over a ranked opponent since Feb. 1992 when the Bulldogs beat No. 25 Long Beach State in overtime.
Other nominees included: Jessica Thompson of Boise State had 15 points in a win against Portland ... Dellena Criner of Nevada scored 44 points with nine steals and eight rebounds as the Wolf Pack moved to 3-0 this season ... Cecilia Russell-Nava of New Mexico State scored 37 points in two games as the Aggies went 1-1 last week ... Natalie White of San Jose State scored 21 points as the Spartans fell to Cal State Northridge ... Taylor Richards of Utah State scored a career-high 26 points in the Aggies’ 85-83 win over Idaho State.
