DENVER ? Hawai?i’s Nicole Mackey has been named the Western Athletic Conference Women’s Swimming & Diving Athlete of the Week.
Mackey, a senior from Newport Beach, Calif. (Newport Harbor HS), won all five individual events she competed in at the Lincoln Aquatics Shootout in Irvine, Calif. over the weekend. On Friday, she won the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 55.44, the 200 back in 2:05.87 and the 400 individual medley in 4:28.36. The following day, Mackey won the 200 back (2:01.87) and 200 IM (2:05.23). The Rainbow Wahine won the Shootout with a record of 6-0 in the meet.
Others nominated: freshman Margaret Doolittle, Nevada; freshman Bonnie Taylor, New Mexico State; and junior Natalie Hughes, Northern Arizona.
