OMAHA, Neb. - University of Hawai`i senior setter Kanoe Kamana`o and sophomore left-side hitter Jamie Houston were both honored on the AVCA Division I All-America teams, earning first and third team honors, respectively. Senior left-side hitter Sarah Mason and junior middle hitter Juliana Sanders both also earned honorable mention honors on the list.
Kamana`o, the only four-time All-America honoree in this year's class, is the second four-time winner in school history (joining Angelica Ljungquist) and just the 15th four-time award winner ever. She led the team to a NCAA Regional final appearance, averaging 13.31 assists, 0.96 blocks and 2.41 digs per game. The Iolani graduate ended her career seventh in the NCAA record books in career assists and eighth in career assists per game. She is the all-time leader in assists and assists per game in WAC and school history, while also ranking in the school's top 10 in digs, blocks and aces.
Houston is making her first appearance on an All-America team. She averaged 5.46 kills per game, ranking sixth in the country, while adding 2.57 digs per game. The sophomore had 15 20-plus kill matches, including a career-high 35 kills in the NCAA Regional semifinal match vs. Southern California (Dec. 8).
Mason had the best year of her career in her senior season, posting 4.03 kills, 3.04 digs, 0.75 blocks and 0.56 service aces per game. Sanders hit .350 with 2.27 kills and 1.48 blocks per game.
Simpson earned her first all-region honor. The first-team all-WAC honoree is 18th in the nation in hitting percentage (.387). She led the Aggies to their first at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament.
Oguh, also a first-team all-WAC selection, earned her second all-Region honor. Oguh, who was only one of three athletes that had previously earned all-region honors, led the team with 175 total blocks. That performance along with her .377 hitting percentage is third on the season-single list.
