Freshman guard Dellena Criner drove the length of the court with 8.8 seconds left and made a lay-up with 1.9 seconds remaining to insure Nevada's upset of league co-leader Fresno State here Thursday night, 68-67.
The Pack saw 10-point advantage at the 12:54 mark evaporate and with 1:12 remaining, the Bulldogs tied it. They would go ahead with 39 seconds left, Nevada would regain the lead with 16 seconds left and then a turnover by Jessica Preslar led to a Mirenda Swearengin basket with nine seconds on the clock, giving the Bulldogs a 67-66 lead.
Nevada (10-14, 6-6 WAC) came out of the locker room charged up to play against the WAC co-leaders. Sophomore forward Meghan McGuire kept the Pack within striking distance in the first half, coming off the bench with 11 points, as Fresno State held a two-point edge, 31-29. She would end up with 25 to lead all scorers.
The Pack would go on an 8-1 run to open the second half and take a six-point lead, 38-32, at the 16:17 mark and they wouldn't trail again until the 1:12 mark.
Fresno State (18-6, 10-2 WAC) would show why they are leading the conference though. With less than two minutes remaining, they would take their first lead of the second half. The lead would change hands four times in that final 1:12 before Criner then drove down the middle of the court and put in the game-winning basket for the Wolf Pack.
Jessica Freeman led five Utah State players who scored in double-figures with 11 points and 10 rebounds to lead Utah State to a 63-53 win against Idaho in women's basketball here Thursday night.
Utah State improves to 3-18 overall and 2-9 in the Western Athletic Conference with the win, while Idaho falls to 8-14 overall and 4-7 in league play with the loss.
Trailing 8-7 early in the contest, Utah State used a 10-0 run to take a 17-8 lead with 11:42 remaining in the half. The Vandals then scored nine straight points to tie the game at 17, and took its biggest lead of the first half on a jumper by Karly Felton to give the visitors a 30-27 advantage. USU, however, finished the half by scoring the final four points to go into the locker room up one at 31-30.
Ashley Rutledge paced Utah State with nine first-half points as she was 3-5 from three-point range in the opening period. Jessica Summers led Idaho with 10 first-half points as the Vandals shot 42.4 percent from the field, as compared to 41.4 percent shooting by USU.
After the lead changed hands six times in the first six minutes of the second half, Utah State finally pulled away from Idaho courtesy of a 12-0 run to stake the home team to a 49-38 advantage with 8:52 remaining. The Vandals then got four straight points from Leilani Mitchell to cut the lead to seven, but could get no closer as the Aggies extended its lead to 14 with 1:31 remaining and recorded the 10-point win.
