Xbox Live WAC Womenb(TM)s Tennis Player of the Week Announced

DENVER ?“ Boise State?™s Megan Biorkman has been named the Xbox Live Western Athletic Conference Women?™s Tennis Player of the Week for the week of February 13.

Biorkman, a senior from Irvine, Calif., went undefeated last week in both singles and doubles in a three-match home stand against Eastern Washington, Utah and Wyoming. Against Eastern Washington, Biorkman and teammate Hadley MacFarlane clinched the doubles point for the Broncos with an 8-1 victory over Kasey Knox and Sayaka Yoshimoto at the No. 1 position. Biorkman also put the Broncos in position to clinch the dual putting away Nelly Dvornicka, 6-0, 6-1, to give the Broncos a 3-0 match lead. For the second time on Friday, Feb. 10, Biorkman and MacFarlane clinched the doubles point for the Broncos at the No. 1 position, this time with an 8-6 victory over Utah's Elizabeth Ferris and Cinthia Saucedo. Biorkman, playing at the No. 1 position, defeated Ferris, 3-6, 7-6, 10-5, for her second singles win of the day.

Capping off her perfect weekend, Biorkman and MacFarlane posted an 8-3 victory over Wyoming's senior Patricia Chien and junior Karolina Rowinski, improving their season record to 15-4, and 6-1 this spring. Once again playing from the No.1 position, Biorkman clinched the match for the Broncos with a straight-set victory over Patricia Chien. With the 6-1, 6-4, win, Biorkman is now 6-1 this spring.

Other women?™s tennis nominees: Idaho?™s Patricia Ruman went 2-1 … Nevada?™s Caroline Bailly won three sinlges matches and three doubles matches last week … Utah State?™s Courtney Anderson won a singles and doubles match as the Aggies defeated Idaho State.
