DENVER ?“ Boise State?™s Clancy Shield has been named the Xbox Live Western Athletic Conference Men?™s Tennis Player of the Week for the week of February 13. This is the first honor for the Bronco who is the brother of All-American Luke Shields.
Shields, a freshman from Grand Junction, Colo., went 2-0 in both singles and doubles last weekend against Utah and Brigham Young. The Broncos defeated No. 54 Utah, 5-2 and stopped BYU?™s 12-match home winning streak with a 6-1 win. Against Utah, Shields knocked off Nick Coutts, 7-6, 6-4, in singles, and paired with Robertson to defeat the Utes' Mascall and Hancock, 8-6. Against the Cougars, Shields and Robertson defeated Dominik Kaufhold and Ivan Kokurin, 8-5, to clinch the doubles point. In singles competition, Shields downed Christian Hand, 6-1, 6-4, giving the Broncos a 3-0 lead and putting the Broncos in position to clinch the dual match.
