Hopkins Earns Two National Hitter of the Week Awards

Las Cruces, N.M. - Aggie first baseman Luke Hopkins has been named both the Louisville Slugger and Rosenblatt Report National Hitter of the Week. The National Awards are the first for Hopkins.

Hopkins, a sophomore from Albuquerque, N.M. (St. Pius X HS), hit .500 (10-20) with three home runs and 15 RBI in four games for the Aggies. In a three-game series against Northern Colorado, Hopkins was 8-for-15 with 14 RBI, three home runs and six runs scored. On Saturday, he was 4-for-5 with five RBI, and on Sunday, he was 3-for-5 with eight RBI and two home runs. In that four game stretch, Luke had 37 putouts and five assists for a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage.

The Aggies will take the field again on Tuesday, Feb. 28 as they host the New Mexico Lobos in the third game of the series at 5:05 p.m. at Presley Askew Field. NMSU will then host a three-game series with Northern Iowa this Friday, Saturday and Sunday. All games are set for 1:05 p.m. starts
