DENVER ?“ Fresno State?™s Jakub Cech has been named the Xbox Live Western Athletic Conference Men?™s Tennis Player of the Week for the week of February 27. This is his second-straight honor for the Bulldog the spring.
Cech, a junior from Prague, Czech Republic, continues to play extremely well this spring. The junior from Prague beat No. 19 Alex Slovic of Washington convincingly in straight sets during Fresno State's 4-3 loss to the Huskies. It is the second-straight week in which Cech has upset a top-20 player, beating then-No. 18 Roger Matalonga of Arizona. On Sunday, Feb. 26, Cech won the deciding match in Fresno State's 4-3 victory at Oregon. He beat Thomas Bieri 6-3, 2-6, 7-6 (0) and also won 8-6 in doubles with teammate Sam Tadevosian.
