DENVER ?“Three WAC Gymnastics teams and several individual performers advanced to NCAA Regionals, including WAC Champion Sacramento State, Boise State and San Jose State. All three will perform in the West Regional which will take place April 8 at 6:00 p.m. in Stanford, Calif. Also competing at the West Regional is Alabama, Oregon State and host Stanford.

The six teams in the competition are all ranked among the 35 in the nation. The group is led by Alabama as the Crimson Tide enters the regional ranked fifth. Stanford is currently eighth while Oregon State is tied for 16th. Boise State is 26th, Sacramento State 31st and San Jose State is 35th.

Two days after winning its first Western Athletic Conference title, Sacramento State received its official invitation to compete at the 2006 NCAA West Regional. The appearance will mark just the second time that Sacramento State has qualified for the NCAA postseason. The Hornets also advanced in 1999 and finished sixth at the regional hosted by Oregon State. This season, however, the team enters the meet as the fifth seed in the West and owns its highest regional qualifying score in school history.

Boise State is making its 20th consecutive trip to gymnastics regionals. The first of those 20-straight qualifications was under then coach Jackie Carringer. The remaining 19 qualifications have been under current coach Sam Sandmire. The Broncos are the fourth seed in the West Region with a Regional Qualifying Score of 194.295.

For only the second time in school history, San Jose State has qualified for the NCAA West Regional. San Jose State qualified for the meet with a 193.305 regional qualifying score. The team will start the meet with a bye, then bars and beam before another bye and finish with floor and vault.

Southern Utah missed qualifying for the North Central NCAA Gymnastics regional by 0.040. Three Thunderbirds qualified in at-large positions, including all-arounders Sheena Shaw and Leah Sakhitab, and bars specialist Ashley Sharpe. A fourth T-Bird, Jess Langley, is the alternate in both the all-around and on floor.

Utah State also had two qualify for inidiviual events. Jessica Parenti and Meagan Lewis have both qualified as two of the five individual all-arounders in the North Central Regional, which will be contested at Ames, Iowa on April 8 at 6 p.m.

The top two teams will advance to the National Championships at Oregon State beginning on April 21.
