DENVER ?“ Boise State Clancy Shields has been named the Xbox Live Western Athletic Conference Men?™s Tennis Player of the Week for the week of March 29. This is his second honor for the spring.
Shields, a freshman from Grand Junction, Colo., went 4-0 in singles competition this week, helping the Broncos capture the championship title at the Boise State Red Lion Invitational, March 25. Shields recorded victories against Nevada and Texas-Arlington at the second position, as well as victories over No. 34 South Alabama and No. 48 Louisiana-Lafayette from the third position. He is now 13-4 since joining the Broncos this spring. Shields and fellow freshman Steve Robertson improved to 14-0 in doubles competition with a victory over South Alabama's Baker and Sramek, 8-3.
Other men?™s tennis nominees: Charles Irie of Fresno State was 2-0 in singles and the No. 2 spot.
