DENVER ?“ Fresno State outfielder Steve Susdorf and right-handed pitcher Andy Underwood have been named the Western Athletic Conference Baseball Hitter and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for April 17-23.
Susdorf, a sophomore from Newhall, Calif. (Hart HS), was 6-for-8 (.750) in three games last week as the Bulldogs won two of three at San Jose State. Susdorf was 2-for-3 on Friday with a double, had a pinch-hit RBI single on Saturday and was 3-for-4 on Sunday. For the week, had a total of three runs and drove in two. It is Susdorf?™s second career WAC Hitter of the Week award and fourth for a Bulldog player this year.
Underwood, a junior from Madera, Calif. (Madera HS), threw a complete-game shutout in Fresno State?™s 4-0 win over San Jose State on Sunday. He allowed just four hits, one walk and struck out seven. It was the first complete-game shutout for a Bulldog pitcher this year. It is Underwood?™s first career WAC Pitcher of the Week award and second for a Bulldog this year.
The other player of the week nominations were senior first baseman Luis Avila, Hawai`i; sophomore first baseman Albie Goulder, Louisiana Tech; sophomore infielder Matt Bowman, Nevada; and sophomore infielder David Flores, Sacramento State.
The other pitcher of the week nominations were junior Steven Wright, Hawai`i; junior Andrew Alsup, Louisiana Tech; junior Ryan Rodriguez, Nevada; and junior John Schlager, Sacramento State.
