Xbox Live WAC Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week Awarded

DENVER ?“ Idaho?™s Matt Wauters and Boise State?™s Eleni Kafourou have been named the Xbox Live Western Athletic Conference men?™s and women?™s Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, respectively.

Wauters, a sophomore from Bainbridge Island, Wash., finished first in the hammer throw at the Duane Hartman Invitational with a record-breaking toss of 204-7, which is a personal best and NCAA regional qualifying mark. The previous record was 203-4, held by Simon Stewart in 2002. Wauters also had a solid day in the throws at the Payton Jordan Cardinal Invitational, winning the men?™s hammer throw with a regional-qualifying mark of 198-8 and placing third in both the shot put (51-7 ?Ľ) and the discus (155-10).

Kafourou, a sfreshman from Athens, Greece, set one school record, and came with inches of another, at the
YMCA Invitational in Boise. Kafourou established a Bronco record in the long jump with a mark of 20-8.50 (6.31m). She broke the 1993 mark of 20-8 set by Rubye Jones. She came within two inches of tying the school record in the triple jump with a leap of 43-3.00 (13.18m). Abigail Ferguson holds the Bronco record at 43-5.00 set in 1997. Both marks were improvements on previous NCAA regional qualifying jumps set earlier this season. Kafourou won both events.
