Boise State Men Finish 16th at NCAA Track and Field Championships
NCAA CHAMPIONSHIP ?“ The Boise State men finished tied for 16th at the 2006 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championshipsin Sacramento, Calif., June 7-10, 2006. The Broncos uses a second-place finish from Mattias Jons in the hammer and a third-place finish from Keron Francis to gather 14 points for the event. The Nevada women scored one point on the throw of Caira Hane in the hammer.

WAC CHAMPIONSHIP ?“ The Boise State men and Louisiana Tech women won the 2006 WAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships. On the men?™s side, Boise State repeated as Champions, earning 186 points to lead both Utah State and Idaho who scored 127 and 124 points, respectively. Fresno State finished fourth with 108, while Louisiana Tech rounded out the field with 104. On the women?™s side, Louisiana Tech also repeated, gathering 168 points to distance the field. Idaho finished second with 144 points, while Utah State was third (113.5). Taking fourth was Nevada with 89.5, with New Mexico State (73) and Boise State (72) right behind. Rounding out the field was Fresno State wth 69.5 points and Hawaii with 48.5.

BOISE STATE REMAINS IN TOP 25 ?“ The Boise State men?™s team continues to be ranked, coming in the Trackwire.com top 25 at 15. The 2006 WAC Champions are led by three members of the Dandy Dozen, Trackwire?™s ranking system. Mattias Jons is ranked second in the hammer, with Simon Wardhaugh coming in sixth. In the javelin, Keron Francis is ranked third.

WAC IN THE DANDY DOZEN ?“ Trackwire.com features eight WAC track and field stars in final Dandy Dozen rankings before the NCAA Championship. For the men, Idaho?™s Russ Winger is ranked fifth in the shot put and eighth in the discus. Boise State?™s Mattias Jons and Simon Wardhaugh are ranked second and sixth, respectively, in the hammer. Fellow Bronco, Keron Francis, is third in the javelin. For the women, Idaho?™s Dee Olsen ranks seventh in the 1,500 meters, while fellow Vandal Bevin Kennelly is eighth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Louisiana Tech?™s Miriam Barnes is ninth in the 400m hurdles, with Boise State?™s Eleni Kafourou is eighth in the triple jump.
