AGGIES TO HOST KACHINA CLASSIC ? New Mexico State will host its annual Kachina Classic Saturday, Sept. 23rd at the New Mexico State University Golf Course beginning at 8:00 a.m. The Aggies are coming off two solid race to start he year and head coach Ed Crawford sees nothing but a bright future for his teams. This year the Aggies will host one of the biggest fields ever at this event with teams such as New Mexico, UTEP, Eastern New Mexico, El Paso Community College, Western New Mexico and University of Texas at Permian Basin.

ATHLETES OF THE WEEK ? Utah State’s Vance Twitchell and Hawai?i’s Chantelle Laan have been named the Western Athletic Conference men and women’s cross country Athletes of the Week, respectively.

Twitchell, a senior from Helena, Mont. (Capitol), claimed first place at the Montana State Invitational. He posted a time of 25:08, 13 seconds better than second place.

Laan, a junior from London, Ontario, Canada (John Paull II Catholic Secondary), captured her second individual title of the season, winning the 4k Big Wave Invitational in 15:05. Laan won the Chaminade Invite earlier in the season. She now has three career individual titles.

Other men’s nominees included: Brandon Geis, Fresno State and Kinsey Dinnel, Louisiana Tech.

Other women’s nominees included
: Zinzi Evans, Fresno State; Ashley Holt, Nevada and Jennifer Twitchell, Utah State.

WAC CHAMPIONSHIP ? The 2006 WAC Cross Country Championship travels to Fresno, Calif. This year’s championships will be held Saturday, Oct. 28 at Woodward Park. The Idaho women and Utah State men claimed the 2005 titles.

NCAA REGIONALS ? The 2006 Cross Country Regionals will be held at nine sites throughout the country. They will all be held Saturday, Nov. 11. WAC teams will be represented in three locations. The West Region will be held in Portland, Ore. (Portland). The Mountain Region will be held in Albuquerque, N.M. (New Mexico), while Louisiana Tech will be the lone team in the South Central Regional (Baylor) in Waco, Texas.
