DENVER - Northern Arizona's Alexis Buckley has been named the Western Athletic Women's Swimming & Diving Athlete of the Week.
Buckley, a senior from Walla Walla, Wash. (Walla Walla HS), grabbed four total wins along with three second-place finishes as the Lumberjacks defeated WAC rival Idaho and lost at Washington State in two dual meets last weekend.
At Idaho, Buckley was part of a 400-yard medley relay which swam a winning time and Northern Arizona top time of 3:59.40, and then went on to record three individual wins with individual top times this season. She swam a time of 1:54.34 to win the 200-yard freestyle, and swam a time of 5:09.05 to win the 500-yard freestyle. Her winning time of 4:29.83 in the 400-yard individual medley helped NAU secure its team victory.
At WSU, Buckley had second-place finishes in the 1650-yard freestyle (17:25.36 - individual top time) and the 200-yard backstroke (2:12.43).
Others nominated included Nevada junior Bobbie Lee Reese and New Mexico State freshman Liz Thomson.
