C. Shields Named WAC Men's Tennis Player of the Week

DENVER ? Boise State’s Clancy Shields has been named the Western Athletic Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Week.

Shields, a sophomore from Grand Junction, Colo. (West River Academy/Grand Junction HS), earned two victories for the Broncos in the ITA Mountain Region Team Playoff to propel them to the ITA National Team Indoor Championships in Chicago, February 16-19. In the first round, Shields, playing in the number two position, dropped the 22nd ranked player in the mountain region, Brett Hunter of UNLV, in straight sets, 6-2, 6-0. Then in the championship match, Shields squared off against New Mexico’s Johnny Parkes. After losing the first set 6-2, Shields responded against the 12th ranked player in the mountain region and took the next two sets, 6-3, 6-4, including collecting the final match point the Broncos needed to advance on a diving volley.
