WAC Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week Awarded

DENVER ? Cal State Northridge’s Justin Johnson and Hawai?i’s Annett Wichmann have been named the Western Athletic Conference men and women’s Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, respectively.

Johnson, a junior from Oxnard, Calif. (Rio Mesa HS), set a WAC record in the heptathlon when he posted an NCAA Indoor provisional score, school indoor record and career-best mark of 5,347 points at the Washington Indoor Invitational in Seattle last weekend. On the track, Johnson ran the 60 meters in 7.30 seconds (just .02 off his indoor PR), the 60 meter hurdles in 8.31 (finished second), and the 1,000 meters in 2:47.58. In the field, Johnson won the high jump with a height of 2.07m (6-9.5), jumped 6.88m (22-7) in the long jump, threw 11.70m (38-4.75) in the shot put, and posted a mark of 4.05m (13-3.5) in the pole vault.

Wichmann, a junior from Jena, Germany (SportGymnasium Jena), won the pentathlon at the Washington Invitational on Friday, Jan. 26 at Dempsey Indoor in Seattle, Wash. Wichmann accumulated an NCAA provisional score of 4,039 points, placing her first in the WAC this season. Wichmann also heaved the day’s top throw in the shot put (45-7 3/4), placing her third in the WAC.
