DENVER ? Boise State’s Luke Shields has been named the Western Athletic Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Week.
In a match-up of All-Americans, Shields, a junior from Grand Junction, Colo. (West River Academy/Grand Junction HS), defeated Stanford's Matt Bruch 3-6, 6-1 and 6-3 to propel No. 25 Boise State over the ninth-ranked team in the country. Shields then followed it up by defeating Santa Clara's Jan Macek the following day 3-6, 6-3 and 6-1, to lead Boise State to two road victories as the team remained perfect at 4-0. Shields also captured a doubles victory with Stanley Sarapanich as the pair ousted Santa Clara's Blane Shields and Kevin McQuaid, 9-8 (8-6).
