WAC Cross Country Athletes of the Week Announced

DENVER ? Idaho’s Diego Moreno-Guzman and Mandy Macalister have been named the Western Athletic Conference men and women’s Cross Country Athletes of the Week, respectively, for the week of Sept. 24 ? 30.

 

Moreno-Guzman, a junior from Lima, Peru (University of Lima), was the top collegiate finisher at the Charles Bowles Invitational in Salem, Ore., finishing the 8K event with a time of 24:30.95. In just his third career cross country race, Moreno-Guzman placed ninth overall out of 212 runners, helping the Vandal men to a third place finish out of the 20 schools at the meet.

 

Macalister, a senior from Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada (Moscrop Secondary), was the first collegiate athlete and second overall to cross the finish line at the Charles Bowles Invitational, clocking a 5K time of 17:24.75. She finished 14 seconds ahead of the second place collegiate finisher. Macalister helped the Vandal women to a first place finish at the event, finishing ahead of 14 other teams.

                    

Other Men’s Nominees: Utah State junior Seth Wold finished 31st at the Oregon Invitational, helping the Aggies to a 13th place finish ... Wold placed 31st out of 138 runners at the event.

 

Other Women’s Nominees: Nevada junior Christa Avena paced the Wolf Pack with a 35th place finish at the Stanford Invitational ... Boise State junior Breanna Sande placed third at the Charles Bowles Invitational, leading the Broncos to a second place team finish ... Hawai’i senior Chantelle Wilder finished ninth at the Charles Bowles Invitational, helping the Rainbow Wahine to a seventh place finish.
