DENVER ? New Mexico State freshman Kelly Conrad has been named the Western Athletic Conference Swimming & Diving Athlete of the Week, for the week of Oct. 8-14.
Conrad, a native of Lake Stevens, Wash. (Las Stevens), opened the season with a pair of personal best performances, earning top honors in both the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle events in a double-dual meet with Northern Colorado and Rice on Oct. 12-13. Conrad also anchored both the 400-yard medley and 200-yard medley relays, which also collected two first-place finishes. She produced her first individual career title in the 50-yard freestyle after a clocking a 23.86, marking an impressive performance in her New Mexico State swimming debut, helping lead the Aggies to wins over Northern Colorado on both Oct. 12-13.
Other nominees included: Tara Hahto of Boise State earned top honors in the 200-yard breaststroke against Colorado State, and also collected second and third-place finishes in the 100-yard breaststroke and 200-yard IM, respectively ... Brie Marhenke of San Jose State was a four-time individual and four-time relay winner in a double dual meet with UC Davis and UC Santa Cruz on Oct. 13, winning both the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle events against both the Aggies and the Banana Slugs with times of 23.63 and 52.18, respectively.
