Finals
In a rematch of the 2006 championship, the University of Hawai'i Rainbow Wahine captured their eighth-straight WAC Tournament championship after a thrilling five-game match against the host and second-seeded New Mexico State Aggies. This was just the third WAC Tournament title match that was decided in five games, dating back to 1998 when Hawai'i defeated BYU. The Rainbow Wahine were led by the outside hitting duo of Jamie Houston and Aneli Cubi-Otineru. Houston had 22 kills and three blocks and Cubi-Otineru had 17 kills and 20 kills. With the win, Hawai'i receives the WAC automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament and awaits its seeding and opponent, which will be determined during the selection show on Sunday, Nov. 25, at 8:00.
Semifinals
In the first semifinal match of the day, No. 1 Hawai'i swept No. 4 Nevada, 30-27, 30-28, 30-21. After two tightly contested games, the Rainbow Wahine were able to pull away from the Wolf Pack in the third game to advance to their tenth-straight WAC Championship final. Hawai'i was led by WAC Player of the Year, Jamie Houston, who had a match-high 27 kills on a .404 hitting percentage, and also added three solo blocks. The Rainbow Wahine are in search of their eighth-straight WAC Championship title.
In the final match of the night, the host and No. 2 seed New Mexico State Aggies swept the No. 6 San Jose State Spartans, 31-29, 31-29, 30-23. The Aggies were led by Amber Simpson and Kim Oguh with 15 and 11 kills, respectively. In a rematch of last season's title match, the Aggies will face No. 1 Hawai'i on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. New Mexico State is looking for its first-ever WAC Tournament championship.
Quarterfinals
In the first quarterfinal match of the day, No. 4 Nevada was victorious over No. 5 Idaho, beating the Vandals in four games, 30-22, 31-33, 30-16, 30-28, to earn its fifth trip to the semifinals in six years. The Wolf Pack were led by the senior pair of Karly Sipherd and Teal Ericson, who had 22 and 21 kills, respectively. Nevada will face No. 1 Hawai'i and will meet the Rainbow Wahine in the first semifinal match on Friday at 5:00 p.m.
In the second quarterfinal match, top-seeded Hawai`i rebounded from a loss to end the regular season with a 3-0 win over No. 8 Boise State. The Rainbow Wahine advanced to the semifinals behind the performance from first-team all-WAC honoree Aneli Cubi-Ontineru who had 17 kills and hit .517.
In the first quarterfinal match of the second session, No. 3 Utah State fell to No. 6 San Jose State in five games, ending the Aggies season after coming off its stunning win against Hawai`i in their final match of the regular season. The Spartans were led by junior Niki Clement, who had 21 kills and 15 digs to lead the San Jose State charge.
In the final match of the day, the host and No. 2 seed New Mexico State swept No. 7 Fresno State in three games, 30-23, 30-25, 30-23. The Aggies were led by senior middle hitter Kim Oguh with 12 kills and four digs and sophomore otuside hitter Krista Altermatt, who had 11 kills and 14 digs. The Aggies will take on No. 6 Spartans of San Jose State in the second semifinal match on Friday at 7:30 p.m. Three of the four teams that advanced to this season's semifinal matches also competed in the semifinal matches in 2006, including Hawai'i, New Mexico State and San Jose State.
The was the first time in WAC Tournament history that there were two five-game matches in one day.
Opening Round
The Broncos beat the Lady Techsters in five games, 23-30, 30-22, 30-25, 27-30,15-11, in the first-round play-in game. This is the second-straight season that Boise State has advanced to the quarterfinals to face No. 1 seed Hawai'i. The Broncos were led by senior right side hitter Tiffany Starring with 13 kills and 18 digs.
