DENVER ? The Western Athletic Conference continues the 2007 Play Up Tour this weekend in Las Cruces, N.M. The ninth and final stop heads to Aggie Memorial Stadium in Las Cruces where the Aggies of Utah State will battle Aggies of New Mexico State. In the 32nd meeting of the schools, New Mexico State looks to snap its three-game losing streak and keep the series in its favor after beating the Utah State last year in Logan, 42-20.
After a successful Tour in 2006, the WAC has continued its promotion of Play Up, announcing its nine fall stops. The Play Up Tour heightens awareness of the WAC brand as well as reinforces the association between the schools and the WAC. New for this year, the Play Up Tour will also be present at a handful of selected volleyball and soccer games throughout the season.
On Saturday, New Mexico State fans can join the WAC Play Up Tour before the Aggie football team takes on Utah State. Supporters can stop by the WAC Play Up Tour tent located on the north side of Aggie Memorial Stadium to pick up some free WAC pom-poms. Fans can enter to win a helmet signed by New Mexico State head coach Hal Mumme and can also register to win a trip to the 2007 New Mexico Bowl or the 2008 WAC Basketball Tournament in Las Cruces, N.M. Saturday’s kickoff is set for 12:00 p.m.
The WAC Volleyball Championship is also being held this weekend in Las Cruces at the Pan American Center on the campus of New Mexico State University. Friday’s semifinal matches will be at 5:00 and 7:30 p.m., and the championship match will take place Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. Fans are encouraged to come out and support their favorite WAC team as they compete for the league’s automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament.
