DENVER ? Louisiana Tech outfielder/designated hitter Brandon Hudson and Hawai?i left-handed pitcher Ian Harrington have been named the Western Athletic Conference Baseball Hitter and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for February 5-11.
Hudson, a senior from Benton, La. (Benton HS), hit .583 (7-12) in three games (2-1) against Texas-Arlington last week. He opened the series going 2-for-4 with a run and a RBI. On Saturday, he was 3-for-4 with two runs and a three-run homer. He also recorded the win, pitching 5.1 innings, allowing four hits, two runs and two walks while striking out three. In Sunday’s 10-inning victory, he was 2-for-4 with a triple and three runs, including an insurance run in the top of the 10th. It is Hudson’s first career WAC Hitter of the Week award, though he was honored the WAC’s Pitcher of the Week last week.
Harrington, a senior from Renton, Wash. (Bellevue CC), struck out a career-high nine batters in seven innings of Hawai?i’s 13-1 series-opening win over Pacific on Friday. Harrington allowed just one earned run on four hits and a walk in picking up his second victory of the season. It is Harrington’s second career WAC Pitcher of the Week award.
The other player of the week nominations were senior first baseman Kris Sanchez, Hawai?i; senior catcher Konrad Schmidt, Nevada; junior outfielder Joseph Scaperotta, New Mexico State and senior infielder Patrick Cummins, Sacramento State.
The other pitcher of the week nominations were senior Brandon Hudson, Louisiana Tech; and junior Ryan Rodriguez, Nevada.
