DENVER ? Idaho’s Matt Wauters and New Mexico State’s Sandra Anane have been named the Western Athletic Conference men and women’s Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, respectively.
Wauters, a sophomore from Bainbridge, Wash. (Bainbridge HS), hit an NCAA Indoor provisional mark in the weight throw at the Vandal Indoor in Moscow, Idaho, last weekend, with a first-place toss of 20.86m (68-5¼). Wauters is the WAC leader and the fifth-ranked thrower in the event in the Feb. 20 Trackwire.com Dandy Dozen rankings. Wauters also hit a personal-best in the shot put at the Vandal Indoor, finishing second and improving eight inches to 16.71m (54-10).
Anane, a senior from El Paso, Texas (Silva HS), set a new school record and a personal best in winning the long jump at the Sooner Invitational in Norman, Okla., last weekend, with a leap of 6.25m (20-06.25), which is an NCAA Indoor provisional mark. Anane is ranked ninth in the event in the Feb. 20 Trackwire.com Dandy Dozen rankings. Anane also placed second in the triple jump at the Sooner Invitational with a mark of 12.77m (41-10.75), which is also an NCAA Indoor provisional mark, and fourth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.74 seconds.
