WAC Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week Awarded

DENVER ? Boise State University’s Simon Wardhaugh and Eleni Kafourou have been named the Western Athletic Conference men and women’s Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, respectively.

Wardhaugh, a sophomore from Bracken Ridge, Australia, recorded an NCAA provisional mark and personal-best score of 64-8.00 (19.71m) in the 35-pound weight throw at the United Heritage Invitational in Nampa, Idaho, last weekend. Wardhaugh’s throw is the second-best in school history, the twenty-first in the nation and the third-best in the WAC so far this season.

Kafourou, a sophomore from Athens, Greece, set a Boise State record, won two events and posted two NCAA provisional qualifying marks at the Boise State United Heritatge Invitational. Kafourou posted an NCAA provisional qualifying mark in winning the long jump with a mark of 20-1.00 (6.12m). The mark is first in the WAC, the third-best indoor mark in school history, and the eighteenth-best collegiate mark so far this season. Kafourou also broke a 10-year old school record in winning the triple jump with a leap of 42-8.75 (13.02m), which is also an NCAA provisional qualifying mark and the eighth-best collegiate mark this indoor season. She broke the record of 42-2.25 set by Abigail Ferguson in 1996.
