DENVER ? Fresno State’s Mirko Zapetal has been named the Western Athletic Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Week for the week of February 7. This is the first honor for the Bulldogs this spring.
Zapetal, a freshman from Trebic, Czech Republic, had a successful week during two dual matches in Oklahoma. In Fresno State’s 4-3 loss to No. 28 Tulsa on Feb. 3, Zapetal and senior Jakub Cech trailed 7-6 to the No. 8 team of Camacho and Cunningham at the No. 1 doubles spot. But the duo rallied to win three-straight games to capture the upset victory and clinched the doubles point for the Bulldogs. In singles, Zapletal beat No. 90 Ricardo Soriano in three sets. On Feb. 4, the freshman again came up with a big three-set win over Oklahoma State’s Daniel Byrnes in Fresno State’s 5-2 loss to the Cowboys.
