DENVER ? Utah State’s Kevin Liu and Fresno State’s Katie Richardson have been named the Western Athletic Conference men and women’s Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, respectively.
Liu, a junior from Idaho Falls, Idaho (Idaho Falls HS), posted an NCAA regional qualifying mark of 57.97 meters, while finishing fifth in the hammer throw at the Willie Williams Invitational in Tucson, Ariz. last weekend. Liu also narrowly missed a qualifying mark in the discus, throwing 50.96 meters for eighth place, and finished tenth in the shot put with a toss of 15.64 meters.
Richardson, a senior from Montague, Calif. (Yreka Union HS), won three events at the individually- scored Cal Poly Invitational last weekend, finishing first in the hammer, javelin and discus last Saturday, surpassing NCAA regional qualifying marks in both the discus and javelin, as well as tossing a career-best 49.63 meters in the hammer. Her 49.08m in the javelin and 50.52m in the discus were both season highs for the senior.
