Nevada senior Nick Fazekas and Utah State junior Jaycee Carroll were named All-Americans by the Associated Press on Monday.  Fazekas earned second team honors while Carroll was honorable mention.

For Fazekas, it marks the third consecutive season that the 6-11, 240-pound forward has been recognized by the Associated Press. He garnered second team honors in 2006 and was an honorable mention selection in 2005.

“It is a tremendous honor to be recognized as one of the top 10 players in the country and really a tribute to the success that our team had this year,” Fazekas said. “The individual honors I have received are very special and something I will definitely look back on. I am really proud of everything that my teammates and I have accomplished during my career.”

“Nick is very deserving of all of the accolades he has received. He has had a great career, and I am very proud of him,” Nevada head coach Mark Fox said.

One of three players in the country to average at least 20 points and 10 rebounds this season, Fazekas ranked second in the WAC and 19th in the nation in scoring with 20.4 points per game and led the conference and finished fifth in the NCAA in rebounding at 11.1 boards per contest. Nevada’s career-leading scorer with 2,464 points and its second-leading rebounder with 1,254 boards, he became the first player in school history to score at least 2,000 points and pull down 1,000 rebounds in his career. Fazekas also finished third in scoring and second in rebounding in the WAC career recordbook.

Carroll joins former Aggie great Wayne Estes as the only two players in school history to be named an All-American by the Associated Press as Estes earned second-team AP All-America honors following the 1965 season. The only other player in school history to earn All-America honors is Tony Brown who earned honorable mention honors from the Basketball News following the 2002 season.

"This is a tremendous honor for Jaycee and certainly well deserved," said USU head coach Stew Morrill. "Being named as an All-American is something you carry with you for the rest of your life and he certainly had a year worthy of this type of recognition. We are very excited for him individually and for our program as a whole."

Carroll, a 6-2 junior guard from Evanston, Wyo., earned first-team all-Western Athletic Conference honors this past season as he finished first in the league and 10th in the nation in scoring with 21.3 points per game. Carroll also led the WAC in free throw shooting (88.8) and three-point shooting (43.2), was fifth in overall shooting (52.7), and 12th in rebounding (6.3).

Overall, Carroll finished the year with 746 points which ranks second all-time at Utah State for a single-season behind Estes who scored 821 points during his junior season in 1964. Those 746 points are also tied for the eight-most ever scored in a single-season in the 45-year history of the WAC.
