WAC Men's and Women's Players of the Week Announced

DENVER - Hawai?i’s Andreas Weber and Fresno State’s Renata Kucerkova have been named the Western Athletic Conference Men’s and Women’s Tennis Players of the Week, respectively, for the week of Mar. 19 ? Mar. 25.

Weber, a freshman from Huenfeld, Germany (Wigbert-Gymnasium), won three singles matches and posted two doubles wins, all at the No. 1 position. Weber, ranked 60th in the nation, began the week topping Guillaume Tonelli of WAC foe Nevada, 6-2, 6-0 on March 18. Weber then beat Alex Slovic of No. 27 Washington, 7-6(4), 6-4 on March 21, and followed up the performance by defeating No. 20 Pierre Mouillon of No. 38 California, 6-2, 6-2 on March 26. In doubles, Weber teamed up with sophomore Sascha Heinemann to defeat Guillaume Tonelli and Laurent Garcin of Nevada, 9-8(5) on March 18, and went on to beat No. 17 Markus Dickhardt and Christian Groh of No. 69 San Diego State 9-8 (2) on March 24.

Kucerkova, a freshman from Roznov, Czech Republic (T.G. Masaryk), won the deciding match in Fresno State's thrilling 4-3 upset of No. 8 USC on March 21. 59th-ranked Kucerkova beat the Trojans’ 12th-ranked Sarah Fansler in three sets to clinch the match and help Fresno State win its eighth-straight at that point. On March 22, Kucerkova and teammate Anastasia Petukhova won 8-6 in doubles over Kansas State’s Da Valle/Yrureta. In singles, Kucerkova defeated Fernanda Da Valle 6-0, 6-2 in Fresno State’s 7-0 win over the Wildcats.

Other Women Nominated: Alice Hall, freshman, Nevada and Erin Monson, freshman, Utah State.
