2007 WAC CHAMPIONSHIP ? The 2007 WAC Championship will be held in Las Cruces, N.M. at the NMSU Golf Course. This year’s championship will be held April 23-25.  Regarded as one of the most outstanding facilities in the Southwest, the NMSU Golf Course has played host to three NCAA National Championships along with numerous conference and USGA qualifying championships.  Highlighted by beautiful scenery, the course is framed by the majestic Organ Mountains to the east and the picturesque Mesilla Valley to the west.  The course, which opened in 1963, offers a unique combination of both traditional and desert golf course features.

SHIPLEY WINS UNLV SPRING REBEL INVITATIONAL ? Fresno State sophomore Jennifer Shipley (71-70-64 ? 205) went head-to-head with Idaho’s Kelly Nakashima (72-68-65 - 205) in a playoff for the UNLV Spring Rebel Invitational title. Her victory came after an outstanding third round score of 64 to finish 11-under. Shipley started the day tied for seventh with scores of 71 and 70 for the first two rounds. She won after a 3-hole playoff when she chipped in on the tenth hole to make par. The win marks Shipley’s best collegiate finish and her first individual tournament title.

SPARTANS WIN OWN INVITATIONAL ? San Jose State shot the low round of the final day with a 296 to win the 2007 Spartan Invitational by 15 shots over second-place California and Colorado at the Almaden Country Club on March 6. The Spartans placed four finishers in the top 10 and won the tournament for the second consecutive year. Jenelle Gomez led the Spartans with a 4-under, 212 to finish second. Erica Moston tied for third place and Cristina Corpus and Sirapa Kasemsamran tied for 8th place.

BULLDOGS WIN KITAHARA FRESNO STATE INVITATIONAL ? The Bulldogs won their first tournament of the year winning the Fresno State Kitahara Invitational Feb. 26-27 at the Copper River Country Club. Fresno State (299-297 - 596) won by two strokes over UC Irvine (598). Hawaii (605) took third followed by Long Beach State (605) and Kansas State (609). Jennifer Shipley led the Bulldogs with a third place finish.

IDAHO’S CASTLEMAN WINS INLAND CUP ? University of Idaho senior Cassie Castleman won the Inland Cup Golf Tournament on Feb. 27, but not until she went a couple of extra holes with Washington State’s Jennifer Black. Both players finished the 36-hole event at Quail Ridge Golf Course in Clarkston, Wash. at 151 to force the sudden-death playoff. Castleman won on the second hole.
