WAC Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week Awarded

DENVER ? Boise State’s Scott Viafore and Annika Hjelm have been named the Western Athletic Conference Men and Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for the week of April 2-8.

Viafore a junior from Duxbury, Mass. (Duxbury), recorded the fourth best collegiate throw in the country in winning the javelin at last week’s Boise State/Idaho State dual. The junior posted a NCAA regional qualifying mark of 232-6 (70.88m). His throw was an improvement of over 15 feet on his previous best career mark.

Hjelm, a sophomore from Huddinge, Sweden (Sjodalsgymnasiet HS), broke her school record in the hammer for the second time this year in winning the hammer at the Bosie State/Idaho State dual. Hjelm’s winning throw was 206-1 (62.82m) which is the eighth best collegiate mark this year. Her throw is also the third-best all-time mark in her home country of Sweden.
