DENVER ? Louisiana Tech’s Michael Coleman and Utah State’s Amber Peterson have been named the Western Athletic Conference Men and Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for the week of April 9 - 15.
Coleman, a sophomore from Ruston, Louisiana (Ruston HS), brought home an NCAA Qualifier in the men's 200 meters with a first place winning time of 21.18 seconds at the Northwestern State Invitational last weekend. The mark is first in the WAC so far this season and the sixth-best finish in Louisiana Tech history. Coleman also hit a regional qualifying mark in the men's 100 meters with a time of 10.39 for a second place photo finish. Coleman was named the 2006 WAC Outdoor Freshman of the Year for his performance at the 2006 Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
Peterson, a senior from Midvale, Utah (Hillcrest HS), clinched first place in all three of her running events at the Mark Faldmo Invitational last weekend. Peterson improved her NCAA Regional Qualifying mark in the 400-meter hurdles to have a lifetime best time of 58.73 seconds, which puts her first in the WAC this season and second in the Aggie record books. Peterson also captured the 100-meter hurdles (14.08) along with the 200-meter dash (24.88).
