DENVER ? Nevada catcher Konrad Schmidt and right-handed pitcher Ryan Rodriguez have been named the Western Athletic Conference Baseball Hitter and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for March 26-April 1.

Schmidt, a senior from Petaluma, Calif. (Arizona), hit .600 (9-15) with four runs and six RBI as the Wolf Pack went 3-1 during the week.  He had at least two hits in each of the three games at New Mexico State.  On Friday, he was 4-for-5 with a triple, three RBI and three runs scored.  He followed that up going 2-for-4 on Saturday and then 3-for-6 on Sunday with a couple more runs driven in.  He began the week by being walked in his only appearance against San Francisco on Tuesday.  It is Schmidt’s second career WAC Hitter of the Week award and the second for a Wolf Pack player this year.

Rodriguez, a senior from Reno, Nev. (McQueen HS), threw eight innings and struck out a season-high 10 batters in Nevada’s 15-0 win at New Mexico State on Friday.  Rodriguez allowed six hits and no walks in helping to shut out the Aggies for the first time in Las Cruces since 1994.  At one point, he retired 11 consecutive hitters and 14-of-16.  It is Rodriguez’s fifth career WAC Pitcher of the Week award and the third for a Wolf Pack pitcher this year.
