WAC Men' and Women' Tennis Players of the Week Announced

DENVER ? Fresno State’s Mirko Zapletal and Boise State’s Tiffany Coll have been named the Western Athletic Conference Men’s and Women’s Tennis Players of the Week, respectively, for the week of April 9 ? 15.

Zapletal, a freshman from Trebic, Czech Republic (Commercial Academy), went 2-0 in singles and 2-0 in doubles against WAC foes last weekend.  In singles, Zapletal beat Utah State's Fernando Gallegos 7-6, 6-3 and Boise State's Piotr Dilaj in the third-set tiebreaker, 4-6, 6-0, 7-6 (6). In doubles, Zapletal and senior Jakub Cech downed Utah State's Ericsson and Tyden 8-2, then knocked off No. 52 Luke Shields and Piotr Dilaj 8-4.

Coll, a junior from Fountain Hills, Ariz. (Fountain Hills HS), did not drop a set throughout the weekend as she led Boise State to a 3-0 record at the Boise State Spring Classic en route to collecting three victories in singles and two in doubles in her final home meet as a member of the Broncos. Coll opened the event by knocking off Utah State’s Bridgette Strickland at the No. 6 position 6-3 and 6-0. Coll earned her second victory of the weekend at No. 6 singles as she ousted Aleska Costa of New Mexico State 6-2 and 6-0. Coll capped off her Boise State career with a dominant 6-2 and 6-0 victory over Anna Gullickson at No. 5 singles to conclude the dual match season with a 14-3 record. In doubles, Coll paired with Bianca Jochimsen to defeat Bridgette Strickland and Dee-Dee Nelson of Utah State 8-1 as Boise State won the match 5-2. She then teamed with Klaudia Wlodarczyk to shut out Portland’s Lindsey Griffin and Audree Jenks 8-0, as the Broncos defeated the Pilots 8-0.
