The second-seeded Boise State Broncos women’s tennis team earned its third-consecutive trip to the Western Athletic Conference Championship after topping Nevada in a battle, 4-2, Friday at the Aggie Tennis Center.
With the win, the Broncos improved to 20-5, while Nevada ends its season at 9-11. Boise State earned four points in singles action after falling behind 1-0 when Nevada captured the doubles point. The No. 40 Broncos tallied wins at the No. 1, No. 2, No. 4 and No. 6 positions to secure their spot in this year's WAC Championship match. Boise State awaits the winner of the one-seeded Fresno State Bulldogs versus the fourth-seeded New Mexico State Aggies.
Boise State earned its first match in No. 1 singles when Nevada's No. 72-ranked Maria Mizyuk suffered an injury and was forced to retire to Pichittra Thongdack. Polina Kokoulina recorded the second victory for the Broncos at the No. 2 position, topping No. 116-ranked Caroline Bailly, 6-3, 6-0, while Klaudia Wlodarczyk rallied to earn the Broncos third point at No. 4 singles, defeating Florence De Vrye, 6-4, 2-6, 6-1. The final point was cliinched in a tight match at No. 6 when Laura Baum beat Ly-Huong Dinh, 5-7, 6-4, 6-4.
No. 40 Boise State will be seeking its first-ever WAC Championship on Saturday, Apr. 26, at 10:00 a.m. at the Aggie Tennis Center.
