Top-seeded Fresno State earned its seventh-consecutive trip to the Western Athletic Conference Championship after topping host and fourth-seeded New Mexico State, 4-0, Friday at the Aggie Tennis Center.
With the win, the Bulldogs improved to 19-7, while New Mexico State ends its season at 12-10. No. 19 Fresno State earned the doubles point with wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 positions, and quickly followed with three singles victories to punch their ticket to the title match. The Bulldogs tallied wins at the No. 1, No. 2 and No. 5 positions and will take on second-seeded Boise State, Saturday, 10:00 a.m., at the Aggie Tennis Center.
Fresno State earned its first match in No. 1 singles when New Mexico State's Sophia Marks retired to No. 16-ranked Melanie Gloria, 6-0, 2-0, ret. No. 22-ranked Anastasia Petukhova recorded the second victory for the Bulldogs at the No. 2 position, topping Zeljka Juricek, 6-3, 6-0, while Jacqueline Haskett tallied the final point at No. 5 singles, defeating Aleksa Costa, 6-0, 6-2.
No. 19 Fresno State looks to win its seventh-straight WAC Championship on Saturday, Apr. 26, at 10:00 a.m. at the Aggie Tennis Center.
