Susdorf Earns Academic All-District Honors

FRESNO, Calif. - Junior outfielder Steve Susdorf has been named to ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Team for District 8, the Western Region of the nation. Susdorf is part of 11 that were recognized for their excellence on the field and in the classroom.

Susdorf, a Civil Engineering major with a 3.80 GPA from Newhall, Calif. has played in every game this season for the Bulldogs, batting with a .350 average adding 10 doubles, two triples and eight home runs. Susdorf is currently second in the WAC with a total of 69 hits, seventh with eight home runs and fourth with 54 RBI's. Susdorf was one of three outfielders to make the All-District Team.

Susdorf has previously been named Academic All-WAC and will qualify for that award again this year. In addition, Susdorf was also honored at last Monday's Torch of Excellence dinner, where he was recognized for his 2006 academic accomplishments, including being Fresno State Scholar-Athlete and WAC Scholar-Athlete.

To be elgible for the Academic All-District Team, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director. Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 14,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA covering all NCAA championship sports.

By winning this award, Susdorf are both now eligible to be named to ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Team. The baseball program has had great success in this program before, particularly in 1994 when pitcher Tommy Minor was named the mal Academic All-American of the Year, given to the top student-athlete in the nation.

He was the only WAC player named to any of the all-district teams.
