Idaho's Nakashima Ties for 87th at NCAA Championship

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. ? University of Idaho junior Kelly Nakashima couldn’t snap a string of 78s and finished tied for 87th at the NCAA Division I Women’s Golf Championship.

Nakashima, the first Vandal women to qualify for the national tournament, opened play four days ago with an 80. She followed with 78s on each of the next three days over the trying Legends course at LPGA International.

Friday’s final round, which Nakashima started on the 10th hole, began with a bogey but she followed with a birdie to go back to even par. She parred her third hole before bogeying four of the next six to finish her first nine in four-over 40.

Her back nine was a model of consistency as she parred the first six holes before a double-bogey five at the par-3 seventh. Back-to-back pars marked the end of her round as she wrapped up her final effort at six-over 78.

Her total for the tournament was 314.

Arkansas’ Stacy Lewis fired a six-under 66 to overtake Purdue’s Christel Boeljon for the individual title. Lewis’ four-round total was 282.

Duke won the team title with an 1170 ? 15 strokes ahead of runner-up Purdue.
