DENVER ? Idaho’s David Holmon and Heather Bergland have been named the Western Athletic Conference Men and Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for the week of April 30-May 6. It is the first athlete of the week honor for both this season.
Holmon, a sophomore from Olympia, Wash. (River Ridge HS), hit his first NCAA Regional qualifying mark with a personal-best leap of 49-7¼ (15.12m) in the triple jump at the Vandal Jamboree last weekend. The meet’s second-place mark moves him up to second in the WAC and seventh all-time at Idaho.
Bergland, a sophomore from Edmonton, Alberta (Strathcona Composite HS), won the women’s 100m hurdles at the Vandal Jamboree with a personal-best, NCAA Regional qualifying time of 13.92 seconds. It is the first Regional time of Bergland’s career and moves her up to second all-time at Idaho in the event. She also moves up to sixth in Canada in the event for the season.
