DENVER - Seven WAC student athletes earned All American honors at the 2007 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championship in Sacramento, Calif. Louisiana Tech’s women’s 4x400 meter relay team of Nina Gilbert, Kamelia Stroy, Miriam Barnes and Latonia Wilson placed third in the nation to claim All-American status. Gilbert, Barnes and Wilson added honors in the 400 meters, 400-meter hurdles and the 200 meters, respectively, and Michael Coleman earned All-American honors in the men’s 100-meter dash. Fresno State’s Mallory Webb placed 6th in the nation in the women’s javelin and Boise State’s Forest Braden placed 7th in the men’s 5,000m run to earn their All-American honors.
In the women’s events, Louisiana Tech’s women’s 4x400 meter relay team of seniors Nina Gilbert, Miriam Barnes and Latonia Wilson along with freshman Kamelia Stroy shattered the school record while posting a time of 3:28.90 to finish third in the country and earn All-American honors. Barnes also took All-America honors in the women’s 400-hurdles after placing eleventh with a time of 57.56, and Wilson earned All-America status in the 200 meters, finishing thirteenth with a time of 23.28. Fresno State’s Mallory Webb earned All-America honors for the third time in her career, placing sixth in the women’s javelin with a mark of 51.73m.
For the men, Boise State’s Forest Braden finished seventh in the men?s 5,000-meter run with a time of 13:54.73 to earn the third All-America award of his career. Louisiana Tech’s Michael Coleman finished 10th in the men’s 100-meter dash with a time of 10.26 to earn All-American honors.
Louisiana Tech’s women earned six points to tie for 41st place with Notre Dame, Minnesota, Providence and Syracuse. Fresno State’s women tallied three points to tie for 59th place with Texas-San Antonio, Florida International, Michigan State, Charlotte, Washington, Sam Houston State and Colorado State. Boise State’s men posted two points to tie for 69th place with Santa Barbara and New Mexico. Overall, 27 WAC student athletes participated in the championship.
