DENVER ? Boise State’s Cody Eaton and Breanne Sande have been named the Western Athletic Conference men’s and women’s Cross Country Athletes of the Week, respectively, for the week of Sept. 3 - 9.
Eaton, a senior from Boise, Idaho (Centennial), captured his first individual collegiate title at the Northwest Nazarene Hampton Inn and Suites Classic Sept. 8 as he recorded a time of 18:46.7 on the 6,000-meter grass course at West Park. Eaton’s first place finish also paced the Broncos to their first team title since the 2006 Hampton Inn and Suites Classic. Eaton finished 11th at the 2006 WAC Championships to earn second-team all-WAC honors.
Sande, a junior from Coeur d’Alene, Idaho (Lake City) and 2006 first-team all-WAC Cross Country honoree, led Boise State to a team title at the Hampton Inn and Suites Classic, winning the 4,000-meter race in 14:13.6. This was the second career individual victory for Sande as she also won the 2006 Hampton Inn and Suites Classic.
Other Men’s Nominees: Freshman Michael Hart of New Mexico State crossed the line 18th at his first collegiate race.
Other Women’s Nominees: Freshman Brandi Gutierrez of New Mexico State finished fifth to lead the Aggies to a third place finish at the Lobo Invitational.
