DENVER ? Utah State forward Dana Peart and Fresno State defender Amanda Reyes have been named the Western Athletic Conference Soccer Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively, for the week of Sept. 17.
Peart, a senior forward from Brigham City, Utah, (Box Elder), scored two goals last week one in the overtime win against Idaho State and one in the win against Weber State. The goal against the Bengals was her fourth this season. She now has a team-leading nine points on four goals and one assist. Peart has 14 career goals which ties for fourth on the Utah State career list with Charity Weston (2003-06). She also has 11 career assists. Peart scored her second game-winning goal of the season in the match against Idaho State. Peart was also named to the Top Drawer Soccer Team of the Week for her performance last week.
Reyes, a junior defender and native of Newhall, Calif. (W.S. Hart), anchored the Bulldog defense as Fresno State did not allow a goal in two matches. The Bulldogs picked up shutout road wins against Northern Colorado and Wyoming. Reyes helped goalkeeper Kaitlyn Revel pitch two shutouts. The Bulldogs have out-scored their opponents 7-0 in their three wins this season.
Other offensive nominees included: Shannon Saxton of Boise State scored one goal and one assist in the match against Eastern Washington ... Nicole Guitierrez of Fresno State had one goal and one assist in to matches, as the Bulldogs went 2-0 last week ... Taryn Fukuroku of Hawai’i tallied seven points in two matches last week ... Jennifer Hull of Idaho scored two goals for four points as the Vandals went 1-1 last week ... Miranda Montejo of Nevada scored one goal and one assist as the Wolf Pack went 1-0-1.
Other defensive nominees included: Jennifer Burns of Boise State allowed four goals in two matches as the Broncos went 1-1 ... Tehane Higa of Hawai?i was part of a defense that allowed only two goal in two matches ... Kelsey Manning of Idaho led the Vandal defense, holding Portland State to just six shots on goal ... Devin Noe of Nevada helped the Wolf Pack shut out San Francisco for their first win of the season ... Ali Griffin of Utah State allowed two goals in 232.54 minutes as the Aggies went 2-1 last week.
